E-Gold Shuts Out the Medford Colts Mitey-Mites
10/13/2008
Malden’s E-Gold Mitey Mite Squad continued their dominating defensive ways posting their fifth shut out in six games as the Cyclones beat the Colts 18-0 at Hormel Stadium this past Sunday. While the defense was solid again, it was the offense that got the juices flowing early as they went on a 7 play 63 yard scoring drive to open the game. The Blue Backfield, QB Isaiah Granderson, FB Jared Martino, HB Philippe Guerrier and TB Mozell Johniken took advantage of their first start of the season with a steady doze of power runs. The drive started at Malden’s own 37 and it looked like it was done on 3 plays as the slippery conditions made it hard to handle the snaps, but on 4 and 3 Malden decided to go for it and Martino busted one 22 yards up the middle getting strong blocks from guard Kevin Teal and tackle Jay KC. With a fresh set of downs Malden kept chipping away as QB Granderson ran for another 1st down on a keeper around the corner where tackle Rendy Flermine and end Tavon Lashley used cross blocks to open the hole and keep the ball in Malden’s possession. Medford’s D was bending, but not breaking and the drive continued with Johniken making a nice run off tackle for 5 yards then Guerrier broke one 32 yards to put Malden on the board. The play was a well executed counter with Guerrier breaking off the block of center Johnny Tran then he made a quick juke past the Medford linebacker to get outside where he picked up a comeback block from Dante Goode which freed Guerrier’s path to the end zone. On the kick off that followed Cyclone Kicker Nasiah Turner placed a beauty down the right sidelines where Mikey Sainristil powered his way through the 1st line of blockers to smother the ball and get Malden’s offense right back on the field. Malden went pure Gold on the next series calling in the Gold Offensive backfield and Gold Lineman and the move paid off with another scoring drive. This series started on Malden’s 45 yard line and on the 2nd play of the drive RB Marvens Fedna powered past the block of guard Marcus Simon and end Micheal Thompson (who was seeing his first action since recovering from a broken wrist) then raced 35 yards for a first down inside the 10 yard line, but a yellow flag was on the ground and the penalty called the play back. E-Gold’s offense re-grouped after the penalty and started pounding away on the ground again with a nice run by TB Jaiir Coleman who rushed for a 1st down following the fine blocks of guard Stevie MacDonald and end Heindrick Mondesir. Then FB Sainristil moved the chains again with a dive up the middle behind the block of center Jahkeal Browne giving Malden a fresh first and ten from the 25 yard line where QB Joshua Simon took over to score on a QB keeper on the very next play. Simon’s TD run was made possible by the relentless down field blocks of his backfield. The call was a power sweep which has the backfield emptying out to lead the QB down field and the Gold backs each executed this to perfection. First FB Sainristil bowled over the Medford defensive end, while TB Coleman got out an crushed the cornerback leaving a linebacker as the last line of defense, but RB Fedna came out with a head of steam and simply flattened the remaining backer allowing Simon to go all 25 yards untouched for the score. Malden’s D was incredibly stingy from the first snap till the last which resulted in their 3rd consecutive shut out. Unlike the past few weeks they did not create the turnovers, but came away with the same results by stuffing anything and everything Medford tried to run to give the ball back to the Big O on downs. The D was led by outside linebackers Emilson Syliant and Mozell Johniken and defensive end Carl Libretto. Syliant recorded 5 solo tackles and a sack and Johniken had 3 solo tackles all of which dropped the Colt running backs for lost yardage. Libretto helped Malden control the line of scrimmage by continually forcing his way into the Colt backfield where he disrupted hand off’s to keep Medford from developing any offensive attack. E-Gold certainly won the war in the trenches on both sides of the ball with compliments going to regular center Jahkeal Browne and a last minute replacement center Johnny Tran. Browne has been solid all year handling his blocking assignments and long snapping with the best of them. Tran on the other hand normally plays left tackle was called upon to shift over to center minutes before the start of the game to replace the injured Alex Kapotas then went out and handled the responsibilities as if he played there every down this season. In the 2nd half Malden introduced a new offensive set, the White Backfield with Timmy Rivers at QB, Dante Goode at FB, Cameron Witham at RB and Dillon Knox completing the unit at TB. While they have practiced as a unit for several weeks this was their first real game action as they took to the field for all the extra points and 2 offensive sets. While the bad news was they were unable to put one across the goal line the good news was they were able to move the ball for two first downs. One 1st down play came on a quick dive with the speedy Goode breaking a tackle at the line then dragging a Colt or two over the imaginary blue line to keep the drive alive. Then after Witham and Knox picked up a few yards with power runs Malden’s QB Rivers moved the chains with a nice keeper around the corner. Malden played flawless ball through 3 qtr’s and in the 4th qtr came up with the play of the game, a triple reverse toss for a 45yd TD. The play was put in this week at practice and the Gold backs executed it like it was the first thing they learned in training camp. QB Joshua Simon started the ball rolling with a smooth pitch to Fedna, who handed it off to Sainristil before making his way to the flats, Sainristil in turn handed it off to Coleman who abruptly on the brakes to stop and throw a bullet to Fedna wide open in the flats. Fedna caught the pass on the run and never looked back as he raced to the end zone completing the triple reverse play for the Cyclones final TD drive of the day. E-Gold now goes back to work this week to get ready for a match up with the Mission Hill Buccaneers next Sunday Oct. 19th at MacDonald Stadium. The game kick’s off at 8am and has been labeled the Mitey-Mite Game of the week in the GBL, a can’t miss opportunity to see two of the best E-Squads square off against one another. Malden expects to have the services of tackle David Doherty and center/defensive tackle Alex Kapotas back in time so they’ll be full strength when facing the Buccaneers.
E-Gold’s Defense Shuts down Newton and Chelsea
10/09/2008
E-Gold’s Defense Shuts down Newton and ChelseaMalden’s E-Gold Mitey Mites Defense has been incredible this season allowing only 7 points in 5 games this season and this past week they shut out both the Newton Mustangs 27-0 and Chelsea Red Devils 18-0. Due to a rainout last Sunday the Cyclones had to deal with two games in a week. They traveled to Newton last Tuesday then onto Chelsea on Sunday and the D shined in both games without their Defensive leader, middle backer and signal caller Marvens Fedna, who was at Mass General Hospital fighting Pneumonia. Fedna is back home resting and is expected to be back on the field soon. The most pleasant surprise was how the rest of the squad rallied around his absence with many players shifting positions and learning new responsibilities on the fly to keep the E-Gold machine rolling along. In Newton Malden’s hard hitting D forced a season high five turnovers, all fumbles recovered by Malden. Emilson Syliant recovered three fumbles, Jared Martino and Joshua Simon one each. The fumbles were the results of some bone crunching hits by Backers Jaiir Coleman and Mikey Sainristil, who recorded 7 solo tackles each and the power rushes from Lineman Alex Kapotas, Martino, Cameron Witham and Dillon Knox. In Chelsea it was more of the same without the turnovers, instead Malden was able to get the ball back by forcing the Red Devils to punt 4 times. E-Gold’s D allowed only 1 first down in the game and was able to get all 24 eligible players on the defensive side of the ball. Leading the defense were the cornerbacks, Timmy Rivers and Philippe Guerrier both of whom continually stuffed the Red Devil attempts to get around the corners which forced Chelsea to try to establish a power game up the middle, but this plan was foiled by OLB’s Mozell Johniken and Isaiah Granderson as they regularly found their way in to tackle the Red Devils in the backfield. Other Defensive standouts in the Chelsea game were Kapotas, 2 sacks, Carl Libretto, 2 stuffs and Tavon Lashley 1 sack. Obviously, the D wasn’t the only one to show up for the games, the offense did have lots to do with the outcome too. E-Gold’s O was led by Coleman’s (2 TD’s, 100 yds in Newton), Sainristil (2 Td’s, a 97 yard run in Newton and a 65 kick kick return in Chelsea), Guerrier (2 TD’s), J. Simon (TD and 2 EP runs) and Granderson’s EP catch. In Newton Coleman shifted over to 4 back to replace Fedna and on the 2nd play of the game he busted one outside and was led 65 yds down field following the lead blocks of Johnny Tran and Marcus Simon all the way to the end zone. The extra point was a QB sneak by J. Simon who cut off the power block of Jahkeal Browne to add the point. Coleman was at it again on the next offensive series, this time he was set in motion, cut back through a huge hole opened by guard Stevie MacDonald and tackle David Doherty then juked a defender and with one man left between him and the end zone he stutter stepped until end Heindrick Mondesir came over to step in front and lead him the remaining 24 yards for the his 2nd TD of the half. For the EP, QB J. Simon rolled right and tossed one to Granderson who softly pulled it in for the score. Up 14-0 at the half Malden wasn’t quite finished putting points on the board scoring a TD in each qtr to finish strong. In the 3rd period, Guerrier used a mixture of power to break through the line and speed to race 45 yards to the end zone. At the point of attack guard Nasiah Turner spun the defender with a hard hit freeing Guerrier off the line then ducked behind tackle Rendy Flermine downfield block of the linebacker allowing Guerrier to race untouched to the zone. Malden closed the game in Newton in classic fashion. After a defensive goal line stand Malden was left on their own three yard line, but not for long as on the very first play Fullback Sainristil broke through the line like he was shot out of a cannon and out ran all Mustang defenders 97 yards down field for the score. J. Simon ran in the extra point attempt to close the game. In Chelsea, the offensive backfield wasn’t as crisp, but still as effective moving the ball and putting points on the board. The Cyclones got the juices flowing very early as Mikey Sainristil took the opening kick 65 yards down the sidelines for the quick score to start the day. Malden’s D was pumped as they took the field and it was a quick 3 and out forcing Chelsea’s first punt of the day and sending Malden’s offense to the field in Red Devil’s territory. From the Chelsea 45 yard line Guerrier busted one as guard Kevin Teal and tackle Jay KC drove the Chelsea defenders off the line opening the hole long enough for Philippe to get by the first line of defense, then Dante Goode took care of the last line of defense with a crushing block on the cornerback freeing the path to the zone for the score. Malden moved the ball well with running backs, Martino, Syliant and Johniken all picking up long yardage on the ground to keep the chains moving, but they were unable to get back to the end zone until mid way through the 4th when QB Joshua Simon pulled a great fake off a power dive play tucking the ball away as he slipped to the outside unnoticed by any Red Devil and once they realized he still had the ball it was too late as Simon shifted it to high gear and out ran them all 32 yards to put the game out of reach. E-Gold is preparing for this weeks opponent, the Medford Colts and is hoping to be at full strength for the first time this season with the return from the Injured Reserve list of Micheal Thompson and the hopeful return of Captain Fedna. The game is scheduled for Sunday Oct. 12th 8am at Hormel Stadium in Medford.

Malden’s blue line was super with blocking from Rendy Flerima, Tavon Lashley, Kevin Teal, and Jay Casey, lead with return of Alex Kapotas. On Fedna’s third touchdown run, Jaair Coleman made the Block of the Year, when he decleated the Everett defender. Malden’s defense was lead by Jared Martino and ‘The Twin Towers’ Cameron Witham and Dillion Knox. Linebackers Michael Sainristil and Isaiah Granderson were team leaders with 8 tackles each. Philippe Guerrier, Mozell Johniken, Carleano Libretto, and Dante Goode helped to keep the Eagles out of the endzone. Malden expects David Doherty, Emilson Syliant and Mike Thompson back next week when they travel to Newton.
E-GOLD Mitey-Mites vs Dorchester Eagles
09/17/2008
E-GOLD Mitey-Mites vs Dorchester Eagles Sunday Sept 14th, 2008The Mitey Mite level of Pop Warner football is an instructional program, an introduction to the game, but someone forgot to tell this to the E-Gold Cyclones and Dorchester Eagle squads as their actions on the field was that of seasoned veterans not of inexperienced rookies. The Dorchester Coaching staff was very complimentary of E-Gold’s Defensive alignments commenting they’ve never faced a team whose “player” personnel recognized offensive formations when they broke from the huddle and shifted to cover the proper gaps each and every play which made it difficult for the Eagles to gather much offensive momentum. Malden’s staff was equally impressed with the Eagles offensive line that continually fired off the line in unity. Needless to say this was a battle from the opening kick till the final whistle. The hitting was hard, there were no arm tackles in this one and even the constant rains could not slow this game down. The excellence started when Kicker Marvens Fedna boomed one 35 yards leaving the Eagles to start on their own 35. From there their big offensive line gave the push needed to move the ball into Malden territory, but the drive ended when Linebacker Michael Sainristil got inside to make a bone crushing hit on the Eagle Running Back forcing him to fumble the ball and when the mud cleared Malden’s Joshua Simon came up with the fumble recovery. Malden’s Offense took to the field for the first time and tried to establish their running game. They were able to pick up one first down on a nice power run by Fedna who busted off tackle through the hole opened by Guard Stevie MacDonald and Tackle David Doherty, but the drive ended on downs when the Eagle Defense swarmed to ball leaving Malden’s Jaiir Coleman a yard shy of moving the chains. The Eagles started their next drive on Malden 46 yard line but were held in check by Malden’s D. On their first play they tried a power run, but rookie Defensive End Jared Martino fought off a block and dropped them for a 2 yard loss. Knowing they weren’t getting through Martino’s side they tried to run a counter play and ran into another wall named Isaiah Granderson who blew up the play for another 2 yard loss. On 3rd and 14 the Eagles opted for a QB draw but E-Gold’s Twin Towers (2), Nose Tackles Dillion Knox and Cameron Witham quickly shut them down at the line of scrimmage bringing up 4th and long and the first pass attempt of the game. The Eagles QB dropped back and fired away only to find Malden’s Cornerback Timmy Rivers was running stride for stride with the Eagle receiver and at the last moment he stepped into the passing lane for a near pick. Malden got the ball back on downs and wasted little time putting up the first score of the game. The play called was a counter play designed to go off-tackle and Marcus Simon and Jonny Tran opened a nice hole, but RB Fedna juggled the hand off and missed the hole so he lowered the shoulder to power through one defender before kicking it to the outside where he picked up a nice comeback block from TE Heindrick Mondesir which freed up Fedna to race around the corner and 58 yards to the end zone to put Malden on the board first. Malden’s extra point attempt came up inches short of the goal line. Malden’s Defense was back on the field and all fired up at this point. The Eagles tried to run wide but Cornerback Philippe Guerrier fought through a lead blocker and made the tackle to save what could have been a touchdown had he gotten around past the edge. On the next play DE Carleano Libretto broke through the line and made a solid hit on both the QB and RB causing the ball to come loose where Fedna swarmed in and recover the fumble as the half ended. The second half opened and Malden started to move the ball down field with a mix of inside/outside runs. QB Granderson got things moving with a nice power QB keeper play for a 4 yard pick up following the blocks of Tackle Rendy Flermine and End Tavon Lashley. The Fedna broke another long run as Guard Kevin Teal turned one defender right while Tackle Jay KC turned another left opening the hole while End Dante Goode crossed back over to free Fedna for a 28 yd gain only to have it called back because of a penalty on the other side of the field and then on the next play the snap was left on the ground leaving Malden on it’s own 12. On 4th and 16 and their backs to the goal line Malden called on Punter Nasiah Turner to kick them out of the hole. Longer Snapper Jahkeal Browne hit the target and Turner let loose a booming 22 yard punt pushing the Eagles back to the Malden’s 34 yard line with only 5 minutes left on the clock. The Eagle’s who had been held in check for 3 and ½ qtr’s which included a goal line stand late in the 3rd were poised to make a run but Malden’s linebackers rookie Sainristil, Coleman, Fedna and Mozell Johniken were quick to the ball and held the Eagles for 3 downs. On a huge 4th and 7 the Eagle QB dropped back to pass with Malden’s nose tackle Knox in hot pursuit and just when it looked like Knox was going to record his first sack the Eagle QB slipped out of his grasp looked up field and saw Rivers was right on his receiver so he decided to take off and he turned the broken play into 31 yard touchdown and then powered the extra point across with 2 minutes left in the game. Malden went into its three minute offense but came up short putting an end to one of the most exciting Mitey Mite games of all time. The E-Gold Cyclones will be facing the Everett Eagles for the first time this coming Sunday, Sept 21st at MacDonald Stadium. Game starts at 8am and E-Gold hopes Alex Kapotas and Michael Thompson can get clearance from the medical staff to get back on the field.
Malden Jr. Midgets vs Everett Huskies
09/11/2008
The Malden Cyclones B team traveled to Lowell to face the Raiders of the Merrimack Valley League. The trip was well worth it as the Cyclones rolled to an impressive 30-8 win to open the 2008 season. Dominating in all facets of the game Malden took control early and had an impressive opening game. Offensively the Cyclones could do no wrong on this day. Franklin Huynh gave the Raider defense fits all day and had 2 long TD runs of 60 and 55 yards. Running behind Khalil Kaba, Adley Flerime Cruz Desrochers, Brad Murray, Devin Fitzgerald, Craig Powers, Jose Morales-Calderon, Thomas Amisano, and Darren Dias; Malden was able to show how football is played in the GBL. Malden showed how potent their offense could be this year. With depth at RB and QB the Cyclones B team has a lot of flexibility. With Malden running outside on sweeps, inside with some smashmouth football as well using counters; Malden was able to keep Lowell's defense on their heels all day. Anthony Ferratusco, Domingo Jenkins and Willentz Metellus added the other TD's runs for Malden. At QB Jake Martino and Robbie Desantis managed the offense as it showed midseason form. Making thier day a little easier was also the contribution up front by Jovani Jean, Chris Fevilien, Danny Powers, and Billy Scola. On the other side of the ball Malden was just as efficient. With constant pressure and aggressive pursuit Lowell only managed 1 first down on the day. Standing out on defense was Richard Gomez aka GoGo, Raymond Sainristil, Kenny Bartolo Jr, Calum Daly, Anthony Boulay, TJ Ruddock and Danny O'Leary. Malden looks to improve each week and will need to with rival Dorchester coming to town Sunday. The Cyclones look to feed off of a strong week 1 performance and carry it over in week 2. The road to the GBL title starts this Sunday at 12:30. It will be a great ride.
Malden Cyclones PeeWee Gold vs Everett Huskies PeeWee
09/09/2008
C-Gold OPENER - September 7th The Malden Cyclone C Squad started out its 2008 season with a 30-0 victory over the Everett Huskies. What makes this win very special, was that no one player is responsible for this victory. The Malden Coaching staff all believe that this was a complete team victory. The onslaught started when Voshan Homes received the opening kickoff & returned it for a 60 yard touchdown behind the well disciplined team blocking of the Malden receiving team.
Everett recovered the following kick-off & Malden’s tenacious defense started its shutout day by stopping the Huskies offense on 4 plays for a total of minus seven yards. When the Cyclone’s offense entered the field, it was time for the “Knox line” to prove to the rest of the league that this starting offensive line is a force to be reckoned with. Third down on the Huskies 25 the controlling & dominating blocks of Dimitios Kapotas, Daryl Saterwhite, Bryan Smith, James Knox, Matt Zavala, Daniel Talbot, & Allen Taylor opened up a huge hole for starting running back Terrance Bunch-Small? to scamper for Malden’s second score. Both of Malden’s first touchdowns were followed up by Chris Goode powering his way into the end zone for the extra point conversions. Again, Malden’s team play defense shuts Everett out in 4 plays & it was time for the “Nick Line” to go to work. This line, in one play, dominated the Huskies defense when Joe Eaton followed the blocks of backs Demetius Cast & Keyshawn Bridgeman Dicks. Mr. Eaton broke an open field tackle and lumbered his way into the endzone. The Defense went back to work pinning the Huskies on their own 10 yard line. Everett could not figure out a way to gain any positive yardage against players like Joe Simonelli, Tristar To, Nick Mason, Devante Rogers & Joshua Bessey. Once the defense stopped Everett, it was time for Malden’s quarterback Ishmail Asongwed to score when he rolled right & decided to keep the ball for a 10 yard run into the endzone. Second half started with the Malden Defense. This drive was Everett’s most effective series but it was stopped by a touchdown saving tackle by Tyquan Jenkins. The biggest highlight of Malden’s day was capped off with a 23 yard 3 point field goal kicked by Voshan Holmes, behind the “nick line” including the wall stopping block of Anthony Imbriano? This newly added weapon of the Cyclone C-Squad illuminated the Malden fans. It was a great day for the C-Squad & a perfect way to start the Cyclone’s season. Keep up the good work & practice hard players; remember, “WE WORK, WE WIN”. Coaching Staff C-Gold Team
E-GOLD Mitey-Mites vs Everett Huskies
09/09/2008
E-GOLD Mitey-Mites vs Everett Huskies Sunday Sept 7th, 2008Not much was left of Hurricane Hanna by Sunday morning but the Everett Huskies still had to deal with a Cyclone, the whirling, hard hitting E-Gold Mitey-Mites from Malden on Opening Day at Glendale Park. E-Gold’s D set the tone on the opening play from scrimmage when middle backer Marvens Fedna broke through the Huskie line and dropped the RB in the backfield leaving them with a 4 yd loss. Fedna went on to record 8 solo tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception, but he was not a one man wrecking crew, he had plenty of help from the front four of Jared Martino, Cameron Witham, Dillion Knox and Isaiah Granderson, all of whom controlled the line of scrimmage while disrupting hand off after hand off. Malden’s D also got solid play from backers Michael Sainristil and Mozzell Johniken and CB’s Timmy Rivers and Dante Goode all of whom made several tackles as the unit held Everett to only a few first downs on the day. The first half was a pure defensive battle as both squads were holding their ground. Malden’s Fedna was able to get into the end zone on a 43 yard scant off tackle, but the play was called back for a penalty and the half ended the way it started scoreless. The second half was a different story as Philippe Guerrier took the kick off 58 yards to the zone. Guerrier picked up the squib kick juked one Huskie defender then followed the down field blocks of Carleano Libretto and Nasiah Turner down the left sidelines to the end zone. Malden’s duo of kick off specialists Fedna and Turner made booming kicks all day, but on the kick off after the TD Fedna booted one 30 yards down field which deflected off a Huskie Helmet and into the hands of Malden which brought the offense back on the field. With QB Joshua McGinnis leading the 5 play 45 yard drive allowing Malden to score it’s first TD of the season from scrimmage. The drive featured an 18yd run (on 3rd and 12) from Fullback Sainristil. Mikey displayed a bit of power and speed as he powered thru the hole opened by center Jahkeal Browne and linemen Stevie MacDonald and David Doherty then shifted gears off the downfield block of TE Heindrick Mondesir picking up the much needed 1st down before being bumped out of bounds. On the next play RB Emilson Syliant got a nice lead block from Marcus Simon and Johnny Tran then used pure speed to break outside straight to the end zone. The D held on the next set too with McGinnis, Libretto and Doherty making big stops in the Everett backfield forcing a fumble which put Malden’s O back on the field at their own 38 yard line. Malden drove for a first down with QB Granderson picking up a few yards on a keeper behind the blocks of Rendy Flermine and Tavon Lashley and then Fedna capped the scoring with a 60 yard blast following linemen Kevin Teal and Jay KC to the zone. E-Gold is hoping to get the services of Jaiir Coleman, Alex Kapotas and Michael Thompson back from the injured reserved list in time for the next game against the Dorchester Eagles Sunday Sept 14th 8am at McDonald Stadium in Malden.
